Superheated Steam Drying and Energy Recovery for Biomass |

GEA Barr-Rosin has developed a novel drying system to recycle 100% of the drying medium by heating the dryer through a heat exchanger. In this case the combustion products are on the shell side of a gas/gas exchanger and the drying medium is on the tube side. Because there is no combustion gas in the dryer process circuit the drying medium consists of superheated steam with a small quantity of incondensable gases & VOCs. The net evaporation of the dryer is vented by a pressure control system as steam at up to 45 psig and can be used as a heat source for other processes. Typically multiple effect evaporator systems concentrating wastewater are heated by condensing the dryer exhaust so that all of the latent heat in the dryer exhaust is recovered. Effectively the system is both a dryer and a boiler. The small amount of incondensable gas left in the exhaust after condensation can be thermally oxidized in the air heater of the dryer thus eliminating the need for a separate oxidation system. GEA Barr-Rosin is a leading supplier of airstream drying systems, we offer a choice of dryers to dry a full range of wet materials, from granules, cakes and powders to sludges, slurries and solutions. The dry products can be in the form of powders, granules or pellets. Coolers and calciners can also be incorporated. Combining over one hundred years of drying experience, we can offer you a complete service with proven systems and innovative solutions in response to your drying needs.GEA Barr-Rosin is part of the Process Engineering Segment of the GEA Group.
