Crystallizer

GEA Barr-Rosin can supply the direct-contact, convection-type Fluid Bed Crystallizer, as well as the indirect-contact, conduction-type Rosinaire™ Crystallizer.

The fluid bed crystallizer is more suited to operate on feedstocks with higher copolymer content, where the PET crystallization rates are slower - requiring longer residence times (20-40 minutes), and where the slowly crystallizing chips tend to pose greater "sticking" problems. The fluid bed crystallizer can be zoned so as to employ a deep back-mixed bed to preheat the chips and begin initial crystallization in the first zone. In the second zone the fluidization velocity would be higher and the bed depth would be shallow - so as to impart higher momentum and create more turbulence to the "more sticky" slowly crystallizing chips. The RosinaireTM crystallizer is more suited to homopolymer and low Co-PET grades, where crystallization can be accomplished with a 10-minute residence time.

GEA Barr-Rosin systems are already used in more than 400 installations for bottle polymer, fiber, filament, microfilament, and film production for outputs ranging from 110 lb/hr (50 kg/hr) to over 11,000 lb/hr (500 kg/hr).

The GEA Barr-Rosin range of fluid bed crystallizers and column dryers is supplied to the principal polymer manufacturers and processors throughout the world. The units are used for a wide variety of processes including crystallization, solid phase polymerization and drying of polyester and polyamide chips.

GEA Barr-Rosin has fully equipped test facilities, so as to determine which type of polymer crystallizer would be more cost-effective for a given polymer chemistry and morphology.
